Dad and mum help with barclays - fos or court

Does anyone else find it hard to believe that a Barclays employee would tell the OP's parents to open another account and to "stay away" from Barclays ? I can understand them advising them that they would have to open another account elsewhere if they were going to declare themselves bankrupt, but there must be a reason why Barclays are only offering £50. Also, if you're not making payments to your creditors then you are going to get phone calls several times a day and letters, if you don't answer the calls or respond to the letters, they'll just carry on until they get a response. It's how it works. It's sad that this has caused the OP's parents a lot of stress but i feel that to try to pursue it further for more compensation will just add to this, best to accept what they've offered and move on. If i've read the post correctly, they've already had £4000 in compensation for two Halifax cases ? Thats quite a lot of money. How can you have three cases which all have the same circumstances ? Something doesn't add up.0

I'm somewhat skeptical myself, despite previous replies. Hence why I couched it - *IF* what they're saying is correct, then their parents have a case.
I don't believe any Barclays employee would be so frankly stupid. But if they were they've been very stupid indeed.urs sinserly,

I am sorry if there was some confusion. My parents did not get £4000 from the Halifax...these were two external cases which were similar because of the harassment.
What I have said is the truth about the employee as well.0 -

If that were the case - why do they charge the institutions £500 for every complaint thats handed to the FOS?
I doubt it was them being incompetent.[/]
When you've seen the documentation, & know the full background, then you comment on the incompetence:(
As for them meaning business, I mean £500 wow I bet that hurts the likes of HSBC, MBNA, Barclays with half year profits in excess of £7bn (HSBC) in a recession, & considering that money comes from you & me the taxpayer anyway!!!0 -

You can't really base your compensation amount on someone elses case. It needs to be relative to any loss suffered by your parents.
I appreciate it must have been stressful for them but i would imagine Bankruptcy is extremely stressful for anyone, let alone someone suffering from Cancer.0 -
this message is one of tough love, brutal honesty and something that might need to be thought about. it is not just a simple rant. there are others who can give sympathy but sometimes honesty and tough love needs to come from someone. dont take it personally. just take the guidance onboard.
i fully understand and empathize that one of your parents has cancer. but this is by no ways morally acceptable to use it as leverage to get free money.
here is what everyone should do/should have done
if you become unable to work for whatever reason. then inform your local council. they will support you if you cannot afford the 'living costs'
if you have a mortgage then their housing benefit will pay off the interest rate for the period of no employment so that the banks are not hiking up payment amounts. and they will just put the house loan amount (initial loan amount) repayment on hold.
this is where the secret to why so many companies state that PPI is not needed and set up reclaim PPI companies. as the government would protect you anyway if you reach a point of financial crises.( its called the benefit system.) and reclaim companies use this knowledge to get your PPI refunded. there are other reasons but i know for sure they use the benefit system as a reasoning as to why consumers dont need PPI when the reclaimers contact banks.
the banks contact people to find out why they are not paying and to get them to pay. by stating the banks are constantly contacting you this means they are not receiving any fund. whether it be a payment from government benefits or from yourselves on an agreed term with the bank.
if the government dont deem you to be at the poverty level to be able to claim benefits then it is for you to contact the bank to arrange sufficient payments to pay the INTEREST ONLY.
the comment about the bank saying to close the account and go elsewhere.. id probably take a pinch of salt about the exact wording. in my eyes id see this as a way of them saying. your not entitled to anything as you have made no financial arrangments to hold payments, pay the 'interest only' or to go through a IVA. they would in their most polite way they could say it. prefer you to just settle your debt, close the account and go away, that they dont want your business.
so if i was you dont be trying to grab money from the bank, when you owe them money.. its a losing argument. instead arrange to get parents benefits sorted. and remember the benefits are suppose to pay for the household bills. not social activities
yes you did not mention that your parents had social activities. but if you have money from mother coming in. have savings this should be used to pay off bills FIRST PRIORITY. if you dont have any income or savings then the benefit system will give family income to PAY BILLS OFF AS FIRST PRIORITY.
do not ignore bank telephone calls. if anything realise that although family is in a crisis that you should inform banks of the crisis and what you will do to stop it.. saying/doing nothing will not help.
so after reading this i would consider looking at what is in your account and if its over £6k arrange with bank a interest only repayment. if under £6k and no other form of income. speak to benefits about getting some benefits. and using them to pay the bank.
you would only have a case against the bank if you were making payments and they were still hassling you.0
