iPhone 4s - Non 3G data

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me with a very frustrating problem with my new iPhone.

On my 3GS I could use data on non 3g connection, it was slow but fine for checking email and updating twitter etc. With the 4s it appears that data only works when 3G is connected?

It looks like its attempting to download updates to mail and twitter but just stay "connecting"

Is this something others have experienced or does anyone have a suggestion of how I could resolve this? I have tried resetting the iPhone settings but no luck :-(

In the top left corner where you have the signal strength and data connection are you getting the the other data types showing when there is no 3G in the area? (ie E or O)

i get the "o" mostly, I have never seen the phone do an E here, it very rarely gets 3G when the data starts work and then drops back to o and it stops.

The 3GS used to be able to update twitter etc while the "0" was showing.

Our 4 and 4s will both work when they only have O connection (which is the slowest) but it is painfully slow and can take a few minutes to check IMAP email accounts etc and sometimes will timeout before completing.

If you are near an Apple store then phone them up and arrange an appointment at the Genius bar as they always have exceptional service and can check it for you. If your not then a second best would be the equiv at your network provider's store.

Thanks, i do live nearish to an Apple store so will make an appoinment and see if they have some ideas.

Probably get a 3G signal in the store and they will wonder what the problem is :-)
