Vaseline Lip Therapy

I'm thinking of purchasing some vaseline lip therapy as I like the Body Shop lip balms but I find those and others are a little too glossy and want something that will moisturise lips properly. I know people use them, but wondering whether it is really worth it or not.

I've seen the little tubs for over £1.20 in places like Boots and Superdrug, but I'm wondering if I should buy these http://www.superdrug.com/skin-care/vaseline-original-lip-therapy-tin-blue/invt/280761/ and perhaps buy a couple of more to gift them. I would be trying out the different scents but maybe they're not good to buy.

Has anyone used the four balms in the pot? Is there somewhere I can find them cheaper? Each would work out at about £1.16 each if I bought the 3 for 2. trying to find a new lip balm as I think the Body Shop ones smell nice but don't do anything else.

  • I have tried all but the brown coloured one (Cocoa butter?).

I do like the blue and the green ones and find they leave my lips really soft. I've just bought the pink one which does have a very subtle pink shade on the lips - probably not noticeable to anyone else., lol but as I don't ever wear lipstick or gloss I do notice it. I have to say that I don't find it quite as effective or at least not as long lasting in effect as the other two.
For a while I did try the lip moisturisers in stick form (chapstick etc) but I don't like them as much. I decided to try them out because it occurred to me that dipping my finger in a pot wasn't particularly hygienic - but now I just try and make sure I wash my hands first or use antibacterial wipes first if out and about.

  • Thank you for your reply.

Where do you buy yours from? I want to spend about £1 each on them but not found it at that price yet!

I don't like them. My understanding is that the Vaseline just creates a barrier for the lips so they don't dry out, it doesn't actively moisturise or soothe them. I may be wrong on that, but Vaseline has never worked for me, if anything it made my lips worse. I prefer either the Carmex or the Nivea (the Soothe and Protect one).
  • Do you have a link for those products? I thought vaseline would be good for lips but if there's something better I'd rather buy it.

    Carmex at Boots

Nivea Lipcare at Boots I like the Soothe & Protect, about halfway down in a turquoise tube.

They aren't cheap, but I've found them a whole lot better for me than Vaseline and I found that they lasted a bit longer as well. Some people find that the Carmex can be a bit 'tingly' on the lips and that has put them off, but I never had that sensation.

Vaseline is just mineral oil (petroleum jelly), its a by product of crude oil, so its doing nothing for your skin/lips, I would suggest any Burts Bees lip products:)

  • I always use the vaseline lip therapy. I've used all four balms and they last ages. Personally I love them and wouldn't buy more expensive products which do the same thing. You could just buy a pot from your supermarket. Works out cheaper than buying the tin set of four. Hope that helped.
