To be fair though online they are usually in those 1cm scroll boxes at the bottom that are pretty tricky to fathom for every day net users and ive even had 1 that wouldnt open in a specific browser. IMO there is no reason for not having them on a whole page so you can read it properly before ticking.
Hastings had their key facts in an FAQ list which was very easy to read as it was listed as a questions and answers list.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I was told by an insurance company that it is illegal to insure a vehicle that you don't own. I was told this after ringing them to cancel the policy, £35 cancellation charge so I told them not to bother, this is when they said I couldn't legally leave the policy running.

so you would have been happier carrying on paying £x a month (if you paid montly) or forgoing a refund of the unused part of the annual fee (if you paid for the year in advance) in order to continue insuring a vehicle you didn't even possess, rather than pay £35 up front ?
Not the most financially savvy decision, regardless of the legality or otherwise !0 -

Quite obviously this is untrue.
There are many companies offering insurance for non owners, e.g:

I paid up front for the insurance, it only cost £100 for the year and they were trying to charge me more than was left on the policy, hence me saying I'll just let the insurance run out then.
I argued with them and I ended up with about £7 to come back, but not as a refund, as discount of my next policy
It was the Insurance co. that said it was illegal to insure a vehicle you didn't own, not me.

These are temporary cover mine was covered fully comp, kept in my garage overnight, 4,000 miles a year. How can that be deemed as temporary. Plus the person who bought the car would have insured it and I'm sure you can't have two policies on the same car from two different people?

Quite clearly you can, otherwise Aviva wouldn't offer to sell you a policy to allow you to
"Arrange cover for a test drive, sharing a long drive with a friend, or borrowing a relative's vehicle for a weekend:"
In the last two cases, there will definitely already be another insurance policy on the vehicle, probably in the owner's name. There is nothing to stop several people each buying insurance to cover themselves when the vehicle is under their control, from Aviva or anyone else.
It is just a myth (although a widely believed one) that there can only ever be one policy on a car at a time.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
