Is the deal above not almost the going rate?0

The total cost is £835 - similar to Tesco's £235+24*£25=£835, but slightly better because of lower upfront amount.
Apple Store + Giffgaff = £500+£240=£7400 -

Thing is, the general view I'm seeing is that many are too tight or stingy to buy a handset outright, I wonder how many would take good care of their expensive purchases if they had to buy it outright, so many posts I see from authors wanting to reduce their monthly and then a whole host of often 'pathetic' excuses. Like you suggest , keeping the monthly low buy paying more for a handset and not being tied to a stupidly long comittment, to me is the only sensible way, buy a house or car on credit, a few other expensive purchases, but mobile phones ....that is scraping the barrel0 -
Personally, I would never buy even a car on credit.0

I am not too stingy or too tight. I don't have a mortgage, I own my house outright. I'm fortunate enough not to have to work. I like to keep my credit score healthy and I like to manage my budget. Taking out a contract helps my credit score as I've no mortgage. Also with xmas coming up my budget won't allow me to go and blow the full amount on buying a phone outright. If I did this then no one would be getting any xmas presents!!!!
£99 for this phone is a good deal, everywhere else I have looked it is £139 or above. Oh and I got cashback from quidco as well, £30 I think. I posted the deal as I know other people want to pay monthly and it is a good deal and Only available for another 3 days I think. To be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0 -

I too own my house outright, I do work and would still continue to do so even if I won the euro lottory jackpot .
This falicy of having no mortgage and credit score is a falacy, just got a credit card to use on non sterling purchases, they gave me a credit limit of well over £8k, once the card arrives, they can reduce the limit to a few hundred pounds or have the card back.
Anyways the deal is good but as mentioned it is not really any different to what are the general deals about0 -

See post #9, what I'm saying in general is that is is rather concerning that some folk are on a very tight budget to where an non essential handset is obtained in preference to real life essentials, and that paying an upfront cost or a difference between paying £25pm or £27pm sways the deal totally.
I see posts where folks have the latest flat screen tv and sky or other media provider package, yet are whinging about paying the small additional for a TV license :eek:0 -
Yes but as I said... I don't work so getting credit for anything is hard work!!! I own 2 credit cards, one which has a big credit limit on it as I've had it for years from when I was working and another which I've had for a couple of years which they won't budge over £2500 limit because I have no recent credit score.
Show me another deal for an iPhone 4s 16gb on contract that compares to this please, I am genuinely interested. To be in your child's memories tomorrow, be in their life today.0
