Wrong date entered when registering for NI

Morning all
Just had a noational insurance bill for £700 odd !!!!
Phoned them up and they have me registered as being slef employed from 2001 which i wasn't it was 2011.
I was claimng Jsa before being self employed and before that my partner worked and i looked after the children.
They have told me to send the bill back with a covering letter.
My question is has anyone else had this ? Are they going to make me pay from 2001 even though i shouldn't have to ?
Many thanks
x

no they wont, thats why they asked you to return the bill with a letter explaining the situation, simple mistake you most likely placed 2001 on your registration form, they will check with the dept. of work and pensions on when you were claiming JSA and then correct their system.
