hiding tattoos

I have seen lots of people working in supermarkets with tattoos. I think times must have changed because when I worked in retail, one of the 'rules of appearance' was, no visible tattoos, also no outrageous hairstyles or colours.
I think times have changed now so I would just go with the tattoo and not bother covering it up.

If your tattoos are on your hands, and you are going to be working in a food environment, I would forget about trying to cover them up with any kind of make up - your hands will be in and out of water, being washed, and using various cleaning agents umpteen times a day. However good the products are at concealing tattoos, I can't believe they'll be good enough to stay on throughout the battering they'll be getting during the working day.0

If an employer is petty enough not to hire you because of a tattoo then I'd suggest it's not someone worth working for in the first place.0

Hmmm...interesting debate. I do remember reading of a case years ago of a young chap who had quite visible tattoos. He worked for a Rolls Royce dealership, so I guess they expect a certain type of clientelle. He was dismissed by the dealership owners due to his tattos. However, this chap was not a front of house salesman, meeting, greeting and selling to potential clients. He was a mechanic spending most of his time away from customers, under a car at the back of the esablishment. He took the dealership to an industrial tribunal and won his case for unfair dismissal.
Of course this is different to what the OP is asking as he / she is expecting to interact with with customers in a supermarket, not have his / her head under a bonnet / hood. That said, I know I have seen at least a couple of tattoed staff at a local Morrison's. One of them works on the meat counter and has pretty visible tattoos on his lower arms. Not a tattoo fan myself. But it would not stop me purchasing a beef joint from the man!0 -
I've seen more than a few tattooed people where i've worked (ok in my defense it's mostly been "standard" high street places) but again i'm not someone who disagrees so much with tattoos but someone who thinks that tattoos on the neck, hands & face are probably some of the dafter places to get tattooed for this very reason! I would however advise against trying to hide them, the more open about them you are the less likely it is to be a problem in the future, personally i don't mind being served by someone with tattoos, but for some people it may either shock or cause offence.
Hence why if i get tattooed it will be upper arm, where i can hide it!Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0 -

If this is the case - then why not get them removed?
DIY tattoos come off really easily with laser. I have treated several like this, and 1-3 sessions and they're gone - completely. Places will charge about £80 - £100 per session usually.
The older they are the better too, so if you've had them 20yrs or so, it will be no problem. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0
