Fair enough, but Jarndyce is correct - it is very easy to sack someone.0 -
If you say what the tattoo is and what the job is then maybe we can offer some further pearls of wisdom. If the job is something like being a roadie for a heavy rock band you may not need to worry about covering your tattoo.0

I have never before felt the need to cover the tatoos , I have always done work on sites / building/groundwork etc where no one bats an eyelid .
I am now though going to work in a big supermarket which is something i have fancied doing for quite a while , i will be dealing with customers and such like ,my favourite food is spare ribs0 -
As you say the role is in retail I would be more concerned about getting thick cover-up make up on their products - they may be more tempted to overlook tattoos on your hands than ruined stock covered in greasy makeup, so perhaps do a trial run and make sure that you won't be damaging your prospects from that angle before you go too.0

Well if you are really wanting the job and feel that your tats would be holding you back if you bared all then I would 1) In the short term go to Boots make up counter and ask about a heavy concealer. They are used to helping out with these type of issues and 2)Go to the G.P as already suggested. When you get the job you could see how the land lies tattoo wize and if everyone elce is'nt bothered then you could expose yours. I do feel that people should be themselves and be able to show them. But I know that some employers can be funny and you dont want them to be prejudiced against you.0

They don't even need to pretend it is for something else, they can just sack you for having tattoos (not conforming to company standards etc). They might be a bit p'd off if they think you've tricked them by covering your tatts with makeup in the interviews. I guess its up to you, it's a risk if you go there with the tattoos as you might not get selected, but also a risk if you try and cover it up and then get sacked after you start. Up to you which you'd rather be risking I suppose.0 -
Im sure Supermarkets have better things to worry about(like the staff pilfering/plundering the stock) than someone with a tattoo on their hand.0

There's a M&S Simply Food near where I work, there's a man working there with tattoos on both his arms (maybe neck too? I can't remember), which are very visible as the uniform includes T-Shirts. If M&S is happy with tattoos I'd assume less upmarket places are too?0
