Hotel in Rome

Options
Hi
I have booked a romantic weekend away 1-4 Feb with the recent Ryanair 0.01p offer found on MSE.

Any recommendation for a well located and clean hotel in the spirit of MSE, i.e. good value and not too expensive.

Many thanks

PS
I assume that I will not be asked to pay the new "Brown's" tax as Ryanair priced the flights with "no taxes", am I right?

how much are you wanting to pay?
We stayed at The Relais Banchi Vecchi.
Less a hotel, more appartment really, 5 mins from Piazza Navone, 10 mins from Vatican. Location was fantastic.

trip advisor review, comes 39th out of 311 so not bad at all,

    here is the website :)

For hotels, I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere, as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

Thanks. This sounds good but I am rather worried that many reviews reported being moved to another hotel due to overbooking...

    from tripadvisor:
"We booked 2 nights here over the internet, about 6 weeks later we were informed that they had not updated their bookings and they had overbooked and now moved us to another B&B"

Thanks for that. Does it mean that I can still cancel up to the day of travel without incurring any penalties?

Any other experts here can recommend a named hotel to book in Rome for a reasonable cost?

    Thanks in advance.

We stayed at the Mercure Delta Collosseo which meant we had a view of the collosseum from our room (which, by the way, i was in total awe of!).
Spotlessly clean, wonderfully located and everything you could want really (pool and terrace on the roof but iirc its closed in jan/feb/mar)
    Nice to save.

    Hello Doublespresso,

Hubby and I stayed at the Hotel Adriano in May last year. Worked out to be about £100 per night (not sure if this is cheap or not!!) and you can read my full review at Tripadvisor.com:

    http://rome-hotels.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g187791-d248861-r5234630-Hotel_Adriano-Rome_Lazio.html

To summarise: location great, rooms good for value, brekkie a bit rubbish (but what European hotel does a good brekkie??).

    Hope this was useful.

    Best wishes,
    Sarah

  • I checked Lastminute and they seem to have this 4* hotel at a good price at £236 for 4 nights

    Gambrinus Hotel - 4* - Rome

I searched Tripadvisor and the reviews are reasonably good, but as always vary from one extreme to the other

Any 1st hand opinions about the hotel and its location?

If you'd like to see hotels in relation to the main sights then you'll hopefully find this link helpful:

    http://www.anitalyattraction.com/italy-attractions-qt/map/colosseum.htm

Zoom in and you could pick a hotel near, say, the Colosseum... or perhaps one near The Spanish Steps to the north of the centre.
