Ford Ka Heater Cold Only!

We have a 2001 Ford Ka and the blower works ok but it only blows cold air, even when the engine has warmed up. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this and if there is a cheap solution?

I've been told it could be the heater control valve - is this easy to fit? Is there anything else it could be?

  • Could be anything from an airlock to a blocked heater matrix.

First thing - run the engine with the pressure cap off the radiator/expansion tank and the heater at max heat and airflow for 10-15 minutes, with an occasional rev-up to see if that improves things when you put the cap back on. Make sure you keep the water level topped up. Check if any of the hoses are cold which may give an idea where the problem lies.

If there's no improvement, you'll have to get it checked at a garage.

The heater control valve has failed and stuck in the cold position. A new one is about £30 and an hours labour. Google it's a very common problem.

As Keith, 99.9% chance it is the heater valve, same one as fiesta and puma, very common fault. Probably not the stat as the engine would not warm up if stuck open.
  • heres a few things that could cause cold heaters, as said heater matrix located under the dash at the rear near the windscreen, a heater control valve, located under the bonnet at the back in the compartment for the windscreen wiper motor, 2 pipes will be going into it with a metol looking object onthe side, this is a solanoid valve and a common problem you can fit this your self easy job and the part is about £15-26. then we come onto thermostat located on the left hand side of the engine will be inside a metal half dome with water pipe connected to it, (1.3 efi endura engines) a water drain required here to remove the cap a thermostat kit will cost about £6-£12 and some antifreeze required to top back up along with water once replaced.
