If you do, think to yourself,

Why do people go online to comparison sites?

    To get insurance quotes.

So why do you phone people up and ask exactly the same questions that the comparison sites, where you have obviously got the details from, ask?

All the time saying that you are not trying to sell anything.

Then saying hold on while we contact the cheapest insurer on your behalf, it will only take 30 seconds, then play crappy hold music.

Then phoning back wondering why you get hung up on.

If you want someone to talk to me at least have them available and not put me on hold.

I would really like to know why you would phone me up and keep insisting that you are not trying to sell me anything.

    What is the point?

Clearly, you have little else to do with your time than to start pointless threads.

    Keep taking the pills.

Yesterday I went online to get insurance quotes.

Today I get a phone call from someone with a dodgy phone line which produces echos, garbled speech, background noises and people in the background speaking, broken speech etc. and I have to keep asking them to repeat themselves.

They say "I see you were online getting some insurance quotes, could you just confirm a few details" then they ask the same questions that I filled out online.

Also saying that they are not trying to sell me anything.

Then they say "I have one company coming up on my computer who will be ideal for you, could you hold for a while until I get in contact with them?" Then I get put on hold while they get in contact with them.

    WHY?

What do they hope to achieve?

All they do is antagonize me. If I wanted them to phone me I would have left my phone number online. Which I didn't, but I left my real name and address so the must have looked me up in a phone directory.

I went online so I would not be bothered with all these callers with their rubbish phone lines which sound like they are underwater, then echoing, then me hearing myself 2 seconds after I have said something.

Do they honestly think that calling someone in that manner with a crappy phone line will persuade them not to buy what they aren't selling but they phone you anyway?

I just thought someone would explain what they are trying to achieve.

But evidently none of them frequent these forums.

I get your point, had it happen to my sister once, she made the mistake of giving her phone number and she was plagued not just from car insurance companies bit home insurance, medical insurance and of course claiming back PPI insurance (missold) you are better off not giving a phone number at all.
  • Not a broker but have had clients who were brokers before.

Why do they do it? Because they secure business by doing it. Certainly a former client managed to achieve almost 60% of their aggregator sales via calls rather than online. Via their own site it was over 85%.

If you do not want the insurers to contact you, then you should have ticked the opt-out box - simples ;)

I'm disappointed the OP deleted the subject. I'd like to think the "insurance crew" could come up with a better fall back than the mortgage posse's "Back To The Future" vibe...?
