Replacing cracked laptop screen - Help!

Laptop was damaged in an arugment and the screen is partially cracked in the middle, but the rest of the laptop is in fine condition.

Is there anyway of getting a replacement screen?

If so, how much would it cost? And what is the most cost effective way of getting it done?

  • You need to post the make and model of laptop, you can get replacement screens easily enough on Ebay and the suchlike, but you do need a little technical knowledge to replace them. Depending on the age, getting a local computer pro to replace it might be prohibitively costly.

Just one other thing - promise not to throw it at anyone that helps!

screens anything from £35 - £75 depending on the model of the lappy. Should be around £20-£40 to have it replaced depending on where you are in the country.....

Presuming I buy the screen online, whereabouts is the cheapest place to take it to get the replacement screen fitted? Or is it quite simple to do?

how confident are you with small-ish screwdrivers??? You have to be careful not to damage the screen cables & connectors. They can be a bit fiddly to do, especially when you do them in-situ, i.e. without taking the top cover & screen assembly off the base of the lappy. There are many guides on-line, even some of the screen sellers on ebay have simple generic instructions within the item listings.

If you don't feel confident doing it, ask some local pc repairers for quotes. DO NOT attempt to go to PCWorld !!!!!!

    Ditto the above.

My wifes screen was damaged so I ordered a new one from the bay, cst £30 and while she was going out for a take away, I had changed it by the time she got back.
It was easy as instructions for changing can often be found on the web.
