Hi there, my daughters friend at uni has microsoft office on her laptop, my daughter was using free software suggested on here by some techies, Open Office, but her bio-physics, genetics course has some stuff which just won't work in the open office software. So she rung the microsoft helpline on her friends office software and low and behold the helpline told her that each microsoft Office software package can be used on 3 computers. Aha she thought I will just download the software onto my laptop, hmm well here's the snag the helpline then told her that Microsoft office can be put on 2 HOME PC'S and only 1 LAPTOP. Grrrrr well seeing's as her friend already has it on her laptop my daughter cannot now put it on hers, sigh. We spent out a lot of money just before christmas buying this new laptop (£280 for pc world) it is a very good laptop, high spec and very fast but no Office software. It did come with word pro which is handy for letters but not her high tech course work.
So here's the thing, as mircrosoft has said it is legal for anyone who has a copy of Office on their home comp to also put it on a laptop I was wondering if anyone on here would be willing to send me a copy of the software for her laptop. It's a long shot, but then many people have helped us on here before, (thank you so much Donnie :T ) so I thought it can't hurt to ask, you don't ask you don't get.
Thanks in advance for listening.

Hmmmm 280 quid for a laptop is not bad.
MS do Educational Microsoft Student Office 2003 at reduced rates http://froogle.google.co.uk/froogle?q=MS+Office+student&hl=en&scoring=p&sa=N&start=10 starts at £78 but excel just 50 ...
Or if anyone in the family works for the NHS then they can get office free .... or was it XP ....
Or does the college/uni provide it ?Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

My understanding was that you were entitled to instal the Student Edition of Office on up to 3 computers owned by the purchaser of the product. Strictly speaking therefore, you would be breaching the license agreement by installing the friends software on your computer, and you would not be able to access any technical support if things go wrong. The other versions of Office only entitle you to instal it on one computer at a time, and you have the same problem with back up. As you have to activate the software online before you use it, I am guessing, though don't know, that you will be prevented from installing on more than the maximum number of computers.
If you are not worried about the copyright infringements and the back up you may find it is technically possible to instal it on two laptops simultaneously, and the ban on this is solely for back-up purposes.0 -

Your Uni should have an ISS dept give them a ring, they should do copies of office for £10-20.0
