how to dispose of old spent compost in growbags

we've got 2 growbags that we used for tomatoes this year and we've also got quite a large veggie plot at the bottom of the garden. Should we tip the old growbags on the garden and dig it in or is it better to put them in the compost bin and mix them up with all the grass cuttings and kitchen waste? Is there any goodness left to be had in them once they've been used?

Just put them onto your veggie patch. It won't have much goodness left in it but it will still help to improve the soil and bulk it up. No need to dig it in, the worms will do that for you.

I always use mine for fast cropping winter salads....for instance, the bags which had my cucumbers in have been re-sown with mixed salad leaves & rocket. Mizuna alaso does well. All in unheated greenhouse. I have also used it just as bulb fibre, for planting up big tubs of daffodils & after that, it all just gets tipped on the veggie plot. Shouldn't think there's any nutrients left in there by then, but we also add lots of home-made compost so things seem to do alright.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
I make sure that, by this time of year, one of my compost bins is empty. All my grow bags, spare potting compost and soft juicy foliage go in, along with a good mix of leaves. Add some fast composter mix, wait until Spring, add some inorganic fertiliser, mix thoroughly, and you have excellent potting compost. You can even refill last year's empty growbags*

What is the knack to tipping compost out of a growbag with usual three planting holes, without tipping wet, black compost everywhere but in the wheelbarrow...?0
