Microwave - crackle/geiger counter noise

Noticed this recently that our microwave has started to make a crackle/geiger counter type noise when not in use but plugged in.
Its about 3 years old but not really used a hugh amount. Google does not seem to throw up any answers.... I am suspecting either a fault with the magnatron (saying that, it heats food fine!) or a capacitor.
I have no intension of repairing it myself - I am ok with most things, but stuff that is likley to harm without you knowing I keep well away from! But just wondering what could be causing it/dangerous/carry on using it until it pops?!

I'd probably chuck it and get a replacement but I'd certainly not leave it plugged in unless I was using it0
