Bought a reposession that previously been underpinned.

hi

we have today exchanged on a bungalow that has previously been underpinned due to subsidence.

we are not worried too much as having read up on it alot of people feel the house is probably more structurally sound now,

the one thing i had forgotten to do is get insurance and we are due to complete next friday so i need to act now.

the only problem is as its a reposession the bank selling it have no information on it,

i wondered if anyone knows of a way of finding either who it was previously insured with or who carried out thework and when. to get insurance now everyone wants toknow when it was done etc.

i am really trying to avoid paying the high costs of having a structural survery.

on my mortgage survey it just said previous underpinning done. nothing more.

thank you

Try Adrian Flux Insurance, they offer subsidence /underpinned insurance. Just got my policy over the phone with them, a Legal & General product.

Buying a property with a history of subsidence/under-pinning always gives insurance problems.

The comparison sites and cheap on-line insurers are out - you need a broker or specialist insurer.

Buying a repo always adds further issues due, amongst other things, to the lack of knowledge about the property/previous insurers etc.

All this should be considered before you commit - not much help to you now.!

There is no central database to look up previous insurers. Ask the previous owner? His name is probobly still on the Title documents, though not his current address.... Neighbours might know where he's moved to though?

Neighbours might also know about the unddrpinning and th builders who did it?
