I am well used to complaining of poor service, so here is a pleasant surprise.

Just over five years ago I invested some £1600 on a king size tempur mattress. It came with a 15 year guarantee. This gave some peace of mind, but one never knows how good the guarantee is until tested.

About a month ago, we noticed that the mattress was not as supportive as it used to be. When we removed the protective zipped cover to wash it, we discovered the foam was split in numerous places. About twenty very deep splits mostly at shoulder level.

So, one phone call to the department store to explain the problem, and they send a man over to photograph the damage. A couple of standard questions on use/misuse of the mattress were asked, and then they dealt directly with Tempur. A few days later we get a call to tell us a new mattress will arrive in approx four weeks. Cost to us £150 odd quid. This was as much as we could possibly expect as the guarantee was for the full purchase cost for the first five years then a sliding scale for the next ten years.

How refreshing that a manufacturer honours its guarantee and that good old fashioned polite and efficient service still exists in some of our shops. Bravo
