She bought a beautiful Georgian building in the middle of nowhere and in disrepair for a bargain price.
I can't see how letting it be used for weddings is going to effect anyone, why not use the 105 (I think), bedrooms for guest instead of letting it rot for another 50yrs. Councils grrr full of committees who like the sound of their own voice.
I would say its nice to see the couple get on but so many on here are jealous of anyone who is prepared to work hard in a career and get rewarded 'it should have been me' they cry from their arm chairs. lol
It's nothing to do with that.
She should do the 'due dilligence' before buying, so that she goes into the deal with her eyes open. One phone call to the planners would have confirmed the situation. Even she acknowledged she knew the situation.
If the property had been sold with plans for guest use it's value would have been higher. She knows this.
On her television program she doesn't hold back when warning people they have made ill-judged purchases.
Maybe she should watch her own programmes.0 -
I believe you can do what you like for 28 days per year (or 14 if you are organising a fair or a market - thinks is a wedding a market?).
The truth of this matter is that there are a load of jealous locals, who resent this publicity seeking southerner coming in and setting herself up as "lord of the manor" - being a woman probably does not help.
Rival wedding venues are probably stirring it up too.0 -
Well, if this thread is going to drag on, we may as well have a picture of Beeny's breasts just to see us through.

Plenty of people are afraid to take a risk in order to get on in life - fair enough that's their choice and good luck to them. Plenty of people like that on here too, but with the added character trait of disliking anyone who does get off their backsides.
I'm regularly assaulted on here by three trolls who have taken a huge dislike to the fact that I took a gamble on interest rates and it's spectacularly paying off. The main character argued and argued against it when I first mentioned I was doing it, yet events have proved to completely undermine his arguments and proved me totally right.
He never got over it.
One of them will be along shortlu with some abuse no doubt. Ho hum.0 -
Just come across this programme on "On Demand". The building is fabulous, but the programme is very irritating to watch - lots of overly contrived situations, obviously scripted bits and plenty of playing to the camera (and lots of local authority bashing). Bit of a shame as I used to enjoy Property Ladder.0

Don't you think the local authority deserves bashing, when the alternative is turning the house into flats or letting the roof fall in?
The staff at local authorities always seem good at spending other people's money, as their raison d' etre.
To give an example: The original - imported from Italy - marble fire place has gone missing. Probably been "stolen" by a builder who knew its worth, from a group of nuns, who wanted more space in front of the chimney breast.
Is it so terrible to make a fake one out of chipboard and paint it to look like marble, if there is not the spare few thousand in the budget to commission an exact replacement?
My sister had this problem in a conservation area - she wanted to resurface her drive with some cheap granite sets (cobble stones) she found second hand - big fuss.
Then the local council resurfaced the public car park on the village green from muddy gravel to concrete pink bricks. What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.0
