Buying an ipod second-hand

  • I made the mistake of buying an ipod last year from a seller on eBay, from overseas, when it came it wouldn't connect to the computer so I had to return it for a refund, by airsure, I did get a full refund (not for the return postage right enough) but I would be careful where in the world your ipod was coming from, Apple refurbs are worth it as they have a year warranty, or try asking round friends, see if they have one that they aren't using anymore, that's how I ended up with mine! And i wouldn't part with it again!!
You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.
  • I bought a 8Gb nano, one of the chunky ones, second hand from a private seller on ebay about 4 or 5 months ago. I've had no problems with it.
The only draw back is that they seem to be hotly contended for and obviously you don't get the choice of colours and sizes. I was looking and bidding on the ones where the description said they'd upgraded to a bigger one, or were now using their iPhone or something similar, basically what I'd consider to be a valid reason for selling, rather than trying to get rid of something not working. Searching for one on ebay is a pig though, you can enter ipod, nano, -broken, -faulty. -"not working" as search terms and still come up with a load of dead ones.

I hope that helps. Good luck with your search.

The Classic is probably the worst one to buy second-hand, as its the only one with moving parts - a hard drive. If dropped, it can be damaged internally.

The others are all solid-state and less prone to impact damage.
