Why isn't the EP diagnosing her? Isn't that half the point of being an educational psychologist?
Someone with a black and white world cant have 2 personalities, that's a contradiction! A good chunk of Austic kids have barely any "surface" personality because they're rule followers. Even though I'm high functioning I've been described as robotic, I don't have big shows of emotion unless I'm in melt down, I think people get freaked out by just how calm I remain during crises like when my work caught fire and I just got everyone in my section out before getting myself out because thats what I got told to do.
Black and white personalities don't tend to bother with questioning why something is out of bounds because we don't care about the grey shading, I'm 25 and there are things I still don't do because I was told at a young age not to. An example here was when I was 13 I wanted to shave my legs, mum said no. 5 years later i was planning on wearing a dress to a wedding and mum mentioned me shaving them, I was horrified because I'd been told before not to (I do now lol).
Tea bag, if they've labelled detachment disorder then this is just as valid as autism for getting a statement, if the school won't help get the LEA involved!0 -
Teabag
I've copied this from one of your other posts to save me typing as I am recovering from surgery and my hand isnt good tyoday.
The Developmental Paediatrician took us through a 1.5 hr initial appointment where every single milestone from babyhood was queried, she observed him and wrote a report based on this. There was not a case of her simply deciding what she felt by reading others opinions.
Based on this appointment, he is now in the Social Communication PAthway and this seems to now have people taking us seriously as they know that it is unusal in our PCT to be referred to the pathway without a strong belief that the child is on the spectrum.
They should have done the "movement ABC assessment battery for children" http://www.pearsonpsychcorp.com.au/productdetails/146/1/10 on her for dyspraxia which has lots more than just two tests in. they should also do a sensory profile on her to check for sensory processing problemsThere are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -
I asked about sensory processing as she has lots of sensory issues but they said something about it not being comissioned in this area and they will add her name to a list with all the other kids already on it but nothing looks set to change. How much did a private asessment cost you and how did you go about getting a grant? Sorry for all the questions, no need to reply today until your hand is feeling better. Thanks for your advice

Scroll right down to the bottom of this for the tests that she should have done http://www.psychcorp.co.uk/Psychology/ChildCognitionNeuropsychologyandLanguage/ChildPerceptionandVisuomotorAbilities/MABC-2/ForThisProduct/FrequentlyAskedQuestions.aspx#scoring4There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0

£430 in Kent for the assessment. I got a grant through a beneveolent fund through work but if you go to http://www.turn2us.org.uk/grants_search.aspx there may well be a local charity to you. There are times when parenthood seems nothing but feeding the mouth that bites you Peter De VriesDebt free by 40 (27/11/2016)0 -
Teabag, Glaswejen's making very good sense about the rule-following/rule-breraking business and I think the EPs need to get a good handle on what's wrong here. This doesn't sound just like ASD.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0

Its complicated, let me try explain. The school refused to give her extra help or even acknowledge she has learning needs. It took them 6 mths to even finally acknowledge she was on the sen register despite me constantly assuring them she was and even my gp writing to them to confirm she was as he had it on dd's files.
Then they offered her 1 hour literacy help per day in a group of 10 children, I wasnt happy that this was enough and her reluctance to go to school was higher the further behind she got. Doctor said he needed an ep report before he could refer her to camhs but school refused saying they have many more children with higher educational need (its a school with a very high number of sen kids) that take priority. Unfortunately as my dd behaviour wasnt causing substantial disyurbance in the class room she didnt take priority, those that are arsonists or hiting staff take priority.
I then decided to contact the ep myself and pleed my dd's case. He agreed she needed to be seen but was very busy, however I rang at the right time as he had a ep trainee working with him looking to work with a child like my dd who could give her lots more time than he could (she was very well educated with 2 degrees and previously a teacher). Anyway she did her report ith the qualified ep overlooking it all and basically the school are saying because she was a trainee they dont feel they need to comply to it. The ep has said this is ridiculous but he cant work with dd as he has a huge pile in back log already and she is bottom of the list so at present there is no ep, even though ep has stated the original report has been overlooked by him and he is in agreement with everything that was written.0 -
omg seems i'm not the only one who was upset about yesterdays caf, my pp worker has just rung and said she has been thinking about it all night and is very concerned how low my dd's levels are (we were given her latest levels at caf yesterday, she's level 4's for most subjects, level 3 for some) and thinks we should gather all evidence and apply for a statement asap and be prepared to appeal

Good luck with the statementing process. I've the misfortune to live in a borough where it'd be easier to nail jelly to a wall than get them to cough up in our situation. Hope it goes more smoothly for you; at least it looks as though some of the people are actually working on your behalf and might be able to achieve something! :AThere is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Thanks, actually from what ive been told by the school there are kids with much lower levels than my dd who have been turned down for statementing so im not holding out much hope but im hoping that compiling all the evidence up and presenting it to the lea will atleast get them to make school put in more support for my dd even if not as much as i'd like..... surely they will see that 1 hour literacy a day is not good enough0
