What do you use to clean limestone tiles??

Hi all,

we're in rented accomodation and the en-suite and bathroom have limestone tiles on the floor and walls. What is the best thing to use to clean them. They are light colour and do have some natural marks on them but I want to give them a good going over and not sure if Flash cleaner or somthing like that will be ok. The last thing I want to do is ruin them Have googled and see you can but specialist cleaners but are they any good???

Many thanks for any advice.

Nothing acidic is the main point. Keep limescale remover away from it and watch out for some bathroom cleaners (I think blue flash is acidic for example). I'd use something alkaline only and test on a spare bit if you have any or on a hidden area first. Washing up liquid is likely to be safe.

Thanks Ben84, will make sure the cleaner is non acidic.
  • I bought some special natural stone cleaner from our local tile shop called LTP neutral waxwash cleanser - wasn't too expensive (£10 for a big bottle but you only need a couple of small capfuls per wash, so should last a year if not more, at the rate I clean). I was advised not to use Flash or similar cleaners as it strips the sealant and leaves the tiles open to water damage afterwards.

You can also just use warm water and a mop if you really want to save money!
  • I'd either use - sorry, I mean I do use - warm water and sponge/mop [I put lovely stone tiles on the bathroom floor this time last year] - but as it's rented I'd ask the landlord/agent what they suggest as you don't want to cause any damage.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
  • Warm water and a natural sponge is the best for general cleaning. If you want to give it a deep clean then i would use the following.

Read the instructions and it is simple to use.

Lithofin Easycare for daily and weekly maintenance. It won't remove the sealant!

For heavy cleaning tasks Lithofin Wexa or MN Powerclean. You may need to reapply an impregnator/sealer - use Stainstop. I'm not plugging Lithofin for any reason than I like their products BTW. HG do equivalents.

    Cheers
