MBNA - finding out insurance policy number and helpline?

Hi all,

After reading about some of the successes, I've decided to reclaim my PPI against MBNA. I had a card from 2006 to 2011 and paid over £100 per month for PPI.

I'll openly admit that I'm trying to short-circuit things here as I've not done a SAR and I haven't got a a copy of my credit agreement with them. I'm jumping straight into the PPI consumer questionnaire. Yeah, I know, cart before horse. :)

Anyhoo, I've phoned them and asked for my PPI Policy number as I don't have it. They've said they can't tell me. Is this unusual? I'm assuming it's needed for the questionnaire ultimately and my MBNA account number isn't enough?

Would the policy number *definitely* be in the info supplied with the SAR request or would the £1 credit agreement route supply this? Seems unusual to me that they wouldn't tell me it over the phone?

Also, I've seen mention of a dedicated team within MBNA to handle PPI claims over the phone? I've looked at the website and can see the normal numbers but nothing specific to this claims dept. Don't suppose anyone has got the number?

Cheers all. :)

  • You don't need a policy number and it wouldn't show up in an SAR. Your account or card number with MBNA is all you need. You do need a valid reason to complain about mis-selling however. The normal customer services department can give you the PPI complaint number if you need it. You also don't need to do an SAR unless you specifically need to see all the paperwork or you want to get copy statements to see exactly how much you paid in PPI - but you don't have to send a figure to MBNA with your complaint and the complaints they've been upholding seem to be in line with the FOS redress. Just fill out the form or send a letter to MBNA clearly stating why you believe you were mis-sold and ask for your money back plus interest and 8%. Keep everything in writing and send all letters recorded delivery.

    Hi there

The account number would be that of the credit card, its the same number, and I note you mention you had the card from 2006 to 2011, they will definately hold the details and must hold them for at least the last 6 years.
Your statement - check them if you have any and the account number of the card is enclosed on there.;)

    Sorry If I have misread.

To make a reclaim, complete the reclaim questionnaire below, step 3, and send to them, remember to save copies, good luck.
