Opinions4u..thx for this valuable info..this an area I have just brushed on..but will look into this..but I am becoming so risk adverse these days and my nerves these days cannot go through the saga of managing my pension pot, like my life depended on it..which it did..
Have you any other ideas where and with whom I can invest to make money without taking on too much risk..0 -

Yes, and the same "bog standard FTSE tracker" would lose 50% of your pension fund next month if the FTSE drops 50% next month.

"Period"?
You sound a bit like my teenage nephew who emailed me last weekend to say that "Fulham are the greatest football club in England. FACT."
And this from someone calling themselves: "2sides2everystory". Oh god - the irony.
Look, you're just yet another anonymous 'bloke on the Internet' making a pronouncement about something way beyond your experience.
Good day, Sir.

Oh dear, is 2sides2everystory saying stupid things again? I haven't read all of his posts because frankly I'd rather hammer an iron bolt through my genitalia. Could someone just summarise if he's said anything as laughable/offensive as, say, likening me to a Nazi participating in the "final solution" for advocating a phase-out of cheques? You know, like he did last time?
Aegis is right, by the way.urs sinserly,

JuicyJesus - to summarise:
Some paranoid conspiracy theory about "The City" and "The Bankers".
States doesn't need facts
Rambling on for a bit
Offence at peoples dismissal
Accusations of people being unable to work out compound interest
Discussion about compound interest
More paranoid rambling about "The City"
Can we just let this thread die (I was about to say gracefully, but sadly that'll never happen)I am an IFA, but nothing I say on this forum constitutes financial advice. Always draw your own conclusions and always do your own research.0 -

Do you really think that I needed be told that?Yes, and the same "bog standard FTSE tracker" would lose 50% of your pension fund next month if the FTSE drops 50% next month.

My reply was to a post that says "there's no money to be made" when clearly people have just had a great opportunity to make money. Equally clear to that poster were the risks of stock market investment.
I referenced charts which highlight not just the ups, but also the downs of the stock market.
It's patently obvious that people can lose money with stock market investment. It's equally obvious that you can also make money and, despite uncertain times, many have done exactly that.
That's all I was trying to bring out.0 -
I see the rabble mob dynamic surfaced again yesterday.
Apologies to normal MSE'ers for the scene. I seem to attract a particularly nasty form of vitriol from certain flat earth types.0 -
That second stanza in the second sentence (my bold) seems surplus to requirements if balanced commentary is the aim.opinions4u wrote: »It's patently obvious that people can lose money with stock market investment. Insider trading is not a healthy activity. You get a lot more fresh air at outdoor markets.Living for tomorrow might mean that you survive the day after.
It is always different this time. The only thing that is the same is the outcome.
Portfolios are like personalities - one that is balanced is usually preferable.
