Was this an auction or buy it now

My grandson collects trading cards, i bid on an auction last night with numerous pictures of cards.

After i won?? the auction, i was asked by the seller as to which card i wanted, the description (which i didnt read) stated the cards were 40p each.

How can you list items as an auction and then want a single price for each card.

Quite often if a seller is selling different versions of an item he will picture all the items but then state clearly in his description that you are only paying for 1 and to tell him which version you want. As you admittedly didnt read the description - is this what has happened?

Your were at fault for not reading the description and they were at fault for offering a choice of items
which i think is not allowed? It never used to be.

Did you bid against other buyers or was it a BIN? Cards were 40p each so how much did you bid?

  • It was an auction and other people were bidding. I know some other sellers offer a choice of cards but it does specifically state that it is one card. As far as i'm concerned it was very deceiving and i will be emailing ebay to see if this is allowed.
  • I'm afraid you're definitely the one at fault, however maybe you ought to recommend the multi buy it now style listing to them, you are one of the people eBay traders hate the most! The ones who don't read descriptions!!!

The seller cannot do a choice auctionso regardless of whether the buyer read the terms or not the seller was in breach of rules. If OP can spare the time to try and get listing pulled entirely then OP will not have to pay , but since there is no guarantee that ebay will listen to complaints it might be easier to just pay and leave feedback appropriate to the experience.

Actually FYI this type of listing is not allowed according to ebay, i have over 800 stars buying and selling and no neg feedback, so i think i know what i'm doing. Not my fault seller wanted to circumvent ebay fees

I requested refund and buyer refunded, if he relists i will report him for being in breach of rules. Listing ended with my bid.

Looking at the latest Ebay trading figures, there is a massive increase in sales made on mobile phones, where the apps don't initially show any description, so I'm afraid sellers need to start getting used to it and try and do something with the extra characters in the title. Not that I approve of not reading descriptions, but a lot of buyers are now just going on the title and if there is a problem from that then they'll just send it back.
    .
  • A year ago I had 27 books to sell by the same author, I made a listing for 7 books and buyers could choose 7 from the 27 titles.
I sold one lot then my listing was pulled by Ebay - had not realised this was not allowed!
