Help with router

Hi,
I have hust bought a Linksys Wireless-G router but the problem i have is with my broadband modem. In the back of the router there is a normal phone type, but ,my broadband modem has a usb connection. Can you buy an adapter so that my modem can fit into the back of my Linksys router. Hope this makes sense!!.

Thanks

If you have bought the correct wireless router, you will no longer require the modem. It is not possible to connect a USB modem to a router.

    What's the model of router?
What flavour broadband do you have - cable or ADSL? Or who's you're ISP?

Answer those and we'll go from there.

You should not use USB connection for modems, they are not secure ports and can lead to Trojan and malware virus problems. Use nly the serial port.

    Eh?
USB is fine, as long as it's protected by a decent firewall.
However, I would recommend ethernet over usb any day. Ethernet was designed for network communication and causes a lot less problems.

Serial ports are very rarely used, and most modern pc's do not have them anymore!!

Thanks for the advice, I have bought a Linksys WRT54GS wireless router and i am using wanadoo broadband with a Thomson Speedtough 330 modem which only has 1 phone line in and a USB connector out. Hope this is enough info to go on

you've got a cable/dsl router instead of an adsl model. Can you take it back and swap it?

Then there be thar problem - it's a dsl router, not an adsl router.

This is designed for those that have a modem that presents an ethernet port - usually for those on cable.

    You need an ADSL Modem/router.

On the right path, just the wrong product!

    Sorry.

Try these guys for kit, cheap at the price and reasonably quick too. Do your research first though, get the right one for you.

The speedtouch 585 is not bad for that price (it's adsl2+ ready so it'll futureproof you for a while)
