Replacement thrust bearing on a Ford Fiesta

Hi people,

Was wondering if people could help me out here.

The thrust bearing on my Mk5 2004 Ford Fiesta is playing up. What I can find online suggests it needs replaced. Took a trip into Halfords autocare who quoted me a whopping £550 for parts and labour (with about £250 for the parts!). They tell me the clutch only comes as a kit which includes the bearing.

Looking online, I can't find any clutch kits that come remotely close to that price, and £550 seems rather pricey for a thrust bearing replacement.

Was wondering what people thought? Many thanks for your help!

Ouch! As most will say take it elsewhere, I'm not sure what engine you have in the Fiesta but a clutch kit from here: http://www.buypartsby.co.uk/ costs between £90 and £123.

Local independant should do it for half the price.

How long ago was your clutch changed? If it was a long time ago you may as well get it all done to save a repeat performance in a year or so.

Go to a local motor factor not the main dealer and not Halfords or some other hillbillie set up. Or look on line even better yes it would be a false economy not to fit the complete clutch kit Then start shopping round for someone to fit it i would estimate a maximum of 4 hours you will also need some oil for gearbox as it will lose some when the driveshafts have popped out. i would say allow £300 labour for somewhere like a fast fit place or some spanner man on his back on his drive £150 thats what i would do it for with the bits supplied
