Hi,

We have an Indesit tumble drier we bought about four years ago.
The door catch has broken - so the thing won't work as you can't close it.

We got it from John Lewis (I think)
As long as I have the receipt, can I try to make a claim under Sale of goods?

[Just realised I have somehow put this in the wrong forum - could some kind Mod move it for me?]

I don't think so after 4 years. A new catch probably won't be that expensive.

I think, if I am right in saying ( will be confirmed by other more ''experienced'' posters ) that the only way the SOGA will cover you is if you can positively prove that it was an inherent fault at time of purchase that has made it now break, which I would believe would be quite hard to prove.

If you are lucky, you may get john lewis to 'effect a repair' which means they would supply the part but you would have to pay labour charges.

In that case you may be either better off getting the part yourself of a parts stockist, they dont really cost too much usually and can normally be fitted yourself.

4 years is quite a long time and the handle does take a fair hit on repetitive use, so they are prone to break. I have had 3 handles so far for my 3 year old washing machine, I am a little heavy with it though.

Before you jump into getting someone to fit it for you, check how much it will cost. There are some silly prices out there on white goods at the mo, so may even end up cheaper buying new.

be easier and cheaper to buy the door kit online.

my washing machine, 2nd hand a good 15 years old, i managed to snap the door catch off... about £10 to replace... only the OH put the glass back the wrong way around... still worked for a while longer...

Ask Indesit if they want to buy it back; 4 years - that must be a record for one of their pieces of equipment... :rotfl::rotfl:
