Application accepted - can they change their mind?

Hi

I need a voice of reason!

My husband has applied for a Virgin credit card, 0% balance transfer to pay off my credit card (£5000). He got a decision instantly saying he had been accepted (has a great credit history unlike his daft wife!) and the credit limit was £6000. I was massively relieved (for once in my life I have no childcare costs or car to pay off so can actually manage), Virgin have called for him today and want to talk to him asap. I'm panicking now in case they have changed their mind and they tell him it is because of me (I have a CCJ against me as we moved home so I never received any communications from my previous employer who had apparently overpaid me). Anway, I'm guessing it is because the card he is transferring the balance to is in my name so they need to speak with him, but then the irrational part of me thinks they will confess all of my sins!

This is my lifeline I'm paying loads in interest I'll never pay off my card off if I stay with Barclaycard so it really means the world to me.

Please can someone advise??? Thanx

Apologies for any typos.

If you have any joint accounts then your credit files would have been linked already and they would have seen your ccj when they checked his.

I don't believe they would know whose name the credit card they are paying is in. I'd go as far as to say I doubt that Barclaycard would be allowed to tell them.
But even so that shouldn't make any difference.
The debt is his, now. Nothing to do with you.

Chances are they want to sell him insurance or something.
As long as he was totally honest on the application you should both be fine.
  • No we have never had any joint finances except the mortage. They just asked joint income amount, mortgage payment amount and the details for the card to transfer the balance from (my name and the card number). All answers were truthful. Thanx

As Tixy says, it's probably a sales call for their card protection nonsense.

saying that, Virgin are issued by MBNA who are trying their upmost to skedaddle from the UK so could be something in it.....or it could be something else, hey I don't know LOL

Get him to give them a tinkle?

No joint finances except for the mortgage? Except for the largest finance going?
Without being rude, that's a little like someone saying they've had no run-ins with the law except for that time they were banged up for murder.

With a joint mortgage, your finances will be linked. They will have seen your CCJ when they checked his credit file, which would have been before they gave him his credit limit.
To then get £6k is pretty impressive in this climate, I'd say. You must have a decent joint income and both have been well behaved other than that incident.

The chances are it's nothing to worry about. The chances are you will worry about it until you know.
So I'd say phone asap and get it over with.

Either way, enjoy your anniversary. [I'm guessing it's 3 years.]
  • I will do - though you will probably hear the screams or cheers!

Thanks all, it can feel quite lonely dealing with debt it's good to have a place to ask questions. No matter how daft! :D
