Named Main Driver Help Please

Hi
Ok so my husband has just passed his car driving test after being a motorbike rider for years. I have a car with 9 years no claims. He has just bought a car, the car is registered in his name.
On go compare website it allows him to put in himself as the keeper, me as the policy holder but naming him as the main driver of the car. the insurance quote is £1000 less than him as the policy holder, keeper and main driver and me as a named driver.
Is this classed as fronting? i am not sure if it is legit but he thinks it is ok as he is being honest and declaring that although i am the policy holder he in fact is the keeper and main driver.
Also another concern i have is if he were to have a bump, my no claims would be affected, he thinks otherwise as if i am the policy holder and with no claims protected i will be fine, he does not need his NCB protected as he has none.
Hope this makes sense, help would be very much appriciated
Thanks

There is no fronting.
Any claim from any driver would affect your NCD (unless it is protected)
But is this an additional car?
If so, then your existing 9 years NCD cannot be used again (ie you already have it against your own car)0 -
Fronting is by miss naming who the main driver of the car is.
I would certainly recommend double checking that it does have him as the main driver before buying. Most insurers default the policyholder as the main driver and not all websites allow you to switch it to one of the named drivers.0 -
Thank you for such a fast response, so what my husband is suggesting is correct and legit, but i will have to go down as 0 NCB as a policy holder and named driver, and him as the keeper and main driver, however i am to double check when i complete purchase that it has not defaulted on the insurer website as me as the main driver.
If so i prob wont have protection on NCB as he has none anyway and i will be down as 0 as well as my car insurance has the 9 years NCB applied on my policy (i was shocked at renewal time as i usually pay £400 approx fully comp yet this year the cheapest i could get was £950 - disgusting really as i have never ever made a claim since i passed my test at 18 years old - god bless the OFT investigation, my current insurer advisor has said that hopfully prices will drop next year if the OFT find price rises are unfair and enforce a price drop, will we be getting refunds then for the difference of what is classed as over pricing? prob not!)0 -
actually do i need to protect the 0 NCB - ie- in case of a bump will it wipe my 9 years on my own car - i do have them protected on my current policy - very confusing!0

If you go on your husband's policy as a named driver, then although you cannot use your NCD (NCD is irrelevant for named drivers), your driving history will be taken into account when fixing his premium, and should reduce it below what it would cost him were he the only driver.0

Don't know what you mean about protecting your "0 NCB".
The only way your existing (protected) NCB will be affected will be if you make any claim against the policy which has the NCB (which is on your car?)0 -
Is it ok though for the policy to be in my name and him as the main driver, i have done the quote as him as the policy holder, keeper and main driver and it is more than the car is worth (£1800 cheapest £4000 most expensive) despite him being 30 years old and i am 2 years his junior, however if he is the main driver and the keeper on a policy in my name, it is less than £1000 - this is much better as money is tight at the moment but we both need transport to get to work, we both work in places that are difficult to get to on public transport, his is 4 buses and would take 3 hours to get to work, yet 1/2 hr in the car!)0

Yes, it is fine to have you as the PH and him as the ND as long as the main driver is correctly identified. You may find that this isnt happening which is why you're getting the differences in pricing - though it could also be the introductory discount that insurers give that you may qualify for but he not given he's just passed his test.
Is he intending to continue riding bikes as well as having the car or is he hanging up his helmet? If he is stopping having bikes then some insurers will allow you to transfer a bike NCD to a car policy.0 -
he wants to keep the bike for the summer as it costs £111 fully comp insurance for a year, £15 tax and 50p per day in petrol to go to work, however when winter sets in he wants the car to avoid trying to ride his bike on ice. The car will also come in handy for shopping etc, then i dont have to do it all0
