Speeding points - will it cost on insurance?

My dad has the choice between a speeding course and 3 points on his licence for speeding.

He is a pensioner and despite the above, they dont go anywhere away from home and I have advised him to do the course rather than take the points. He is now faffing about not knowing where the course is and it might be all day etc etc

Whats best for him to do?

    Do the course every time.
It'll be a dull half day, but it beats points.
It won't be hard, he might learn something, and it will prevent a rolling impact (potentially) on his insurance.

To be honest, if he's a pensioner and only just found himself in this situation it won't be a common occurance. I'm guessing his insurance is quite low? so 3 points won't make a massive amount to his premium.

id say course evertime but due to your dads age and lack of mileage he does. take the points and not spend the day with a few young lowlifes with baseball caps on sideways who think its good to of been caught speeding in there high performance corsa 1.2
  • Whatever someone's age they should take the course.

He might just nab another 3 points during the next 3 years.

Course should be entertaining for him, he'll come back even more convinced the world has gone to hell when he's rubbed shoulders with the future of of our country for 6 hours..;)

You can do some virtual quotes online to see what difference (if any) 3 points would make to motor quotes.

My boss has just taken the course, it cost £75 as opposed to £60 for the fine, lasted 4 hours 1.30 - 5.30 which included free tea & biscuits. only bad bit was there was no parking anywhere near the venue so I had to drop him off / pick him up.
around 50% were business people, a few older women (he is 62) and a few in their teens / 20's he said it was fine if a little boring.

He may actually learn somethign too. Sounds like he passed his test in the army so dramatically different to today's tests and thinking. Could be a bit of an eye opener if nothing else.

    5t.
