Hi Folks

Any Advice Appreciated
The Computer has been freezing whilst on the internet and keeps losing the link to the Hp Printer.

AMD Athlon64 Processor 3800+, 2.4 GHz 2 GB of RAM (Vista)

I am unable to find the commit charge info,

I have run CC Cleaner and StartUp Lite, Malwarebytes came up clean.
Also worked my way through Confused's guide to speed up a slow pc.

    you need to run the norton removal tool

    then ccleaner (cleaner & registry scans) and remove all they find.

    I am unable to find the commit charge info,

    Open Task MAnager (Ctrl-Alt-Del, then Task Manager). Along the bottom, it tells you how many processes are running and the Physical RAM %, or, under the Performance tab, and look at the Memory figures. Commit Charge is how it's listed in XP :)

    So Vista's using 41% of 2GB is approx 800Meg - that's about right :)

    is the hp printer wireless?

    Unless you use media sharing across the network disable it in media player, library, media sharing, or options media sharing, untick find and share media

    I've just uninstalled and about to reinstall. it's my in-laws comp. (silver surfers) love the printer/scanner but it does seem to keep giving problems. e.g losing connection, last nite it would print but wouldn't recognise scanner. also lots of shortcuts to same printer can often be found in the printer folder.

    media sharing not used,

    already I see a difference in computer responsiveness.

    these all-in-one printer/scanners are a pig....I've been out to loads of them that just stop working as they should. The best way to tackle them is to download the drivers from the manufacturer's website (as the;ll be the latest ones), uninstall completely and then re-install with the new drivers. I suspect it's to do with the interaction with later windows updates, which then need the printer drivers updating to remain compatable :(

    Am quite chuffed solved "I Hope" this one myself. Did above, and discovered there were critical updates to install. (to do with printer losing link with the computer) :o
    Ah well all sorted now, she's a flying machine compared to this morning.
