Home insurance with history of claims

Help!

Can anyone recommend a home insurer who'll consider me, even though I have four claims in the last 3 years? (Yes - had I known the effect claiming would have come renewal-time, I wouldn't have claimed  ).

I accept that I'll have to pay a higher premium for my insurance, but I can't find a single company who'll even do that - they all just say no!

Thanks for any help

Jez

  • I realy can't help you here, but I do sympathise. We are in the position that we live in an old house which when we insured with the company(who is also our mortgage company and the company who did the survey 6 months ago) they were more than happy to take our money. They had also insured the house with the previous owner. They said the age of the property was no problem
Since the bad storms last week we have serious roof damage, and have been told we need a new roof, water coming in badly. What was our insurance company's attitude, well it is an old house and this will be taken into consideration when looking at a claim. We now find that we will have to replace the roof ourselves.
To be honest most insurance companies only want to know you if you don't claim and it does seem pointless sometimes to even have it when it won't pay out to genuine claims for situatons you are supposed to be covered for.I hope you find an insurer.Good luck!

Go and speak to a decent insurance broker. Check out the BIBA site for details. (British Insurance Brokers Association).

A lot will depend on the types of claims you have had. If say you had 4 theft claims but have since upgraded security and fitted an insurer approved intruder alarm then the broker can put this case to the insurers for you.

If you have had 4 storm damage claims the broker may have to negotiate for restricted cover, e.g. £200 excess for everything bar storm in which case the excess is £500 - £1000.

The broker is paid in commision by the insurer.
