I'm a computer geek and a pale one at that. The idea of turning up for a month in america from a cold start just seemed stupid, so I tried to kick start my melolin a little. Think it worked, I didn't get too badly burnt :)

Interested that a lot of people are saying similar things - that it ran away a little, that they didn't really count petrol etc - but for all the people on here that manage on extremely tight budgets - I just wonder how they do that. If you were going to someone else's wedding, you'd think "It's going to cost us X in petrol!" - you wouldn't just ignore it then...so I wonder why we're willing to when it's our own wedding...

Well, I guess we haven't had to rack up many miles so far. :) If we had to drive big distances for stuff, we would probably count it. But I keep a spending diary anyway, so I have started a new sheet and counted everything wedding-related and will continue to do so!

I have two spreadsheets - the one my OH sees and the real one :rotfl: Obviously one is more restrained than the other... I'll let you work out which ;)

    :rotfl: Love it!

Thank you for starting this thread Idiophreak, it's useful to see what little items people forget to include in their budgets, and how much it can add up!

Our spreadsheet is fairly detailed, and I've thought of several extra little bits since it was started, like passport name change fee, presents for the wedding party, hotel room for the night before, etc. The total amount is currently about £400 above budget, so we're trying to find ways to shave a few quid off wherever we can! I'm really hoping we've actually got everything included now

Still, I've got two healthy kidneys, and only need one of them... :rotfl:

This is really interesting to read, particularly as the budget is worrying me at the moment.

Ideally I want to do it for under £5000... but the prices we've put next to things come up at about £7000! eek!
The Mr's Dad is paying £1000, and my parents are paying for some of it. So we're trying to put our own personal budget at about £4000.

Unfortunately, it's only 8 months to our wedding... so we'd need to save £500 a month... not sure if that's going to happen but we can try.

Can I just say a thanks to trying_2_b_good and twirlypinky for the list! I'll be utilising that!

Wish i'd seen that budget list earlier!!

We started with a £3000 budget

It changed to £5000 about halfway through with the hidden costs

2 weeks to go, and it has actually cost us £8000, the last £2k being due this month

I was VERY naive with the first budget, and missed lots of essentials off the second budget (such as dress alterations and a honeymoon!)...

to be honest, i'll be glad when it's over and we can think about paying off the bloody overdraft!!

  • We have a really really detailed budget - but I always add things to it whenever I do ANYTHING weddingy. That way, i can see how much it's cost me, including all the 'hidden' costs that tend to go unnoticed!

it's proven useful, cos when my OH asks "why are we so short this month, we haven't bought anything!" i can show him all the tiny little wedding costs that have built up over the weeks!
    Life on a shoestring!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have a very very detailed spreadsheet which includes 2 budget tabs - one wedding, one honeymoon (now booked, wahoo!). I think that I have thought of all wedding related costs and brought quite a few things in advance to stop hidden costs building but if this happens, as long as we can afford it, no worries!

Good thinking becca; I have now just created a Honeymoon tab! :D No figures on it yet, mind; we've just got the total estimate which we're hoping to reduce by a few hundred quid

Actually, could you (or anyone else) do me a small favour and tell me if I've missed anything off Honeymoon costs? I've got the passport name change fee on the main budget already.
