We took the fire out a few years ago as it was not needed, we used the wall to put tv on and the hole was where we put dvd, sky box etc, it is now getting on my nerves seeing them, I also childmind and they are right where the kids play mainly and they have already damaged my blueray player which was only a few weeks old
Is there such a thing as a fake fire that we could ? we dont need the heat and like i say tv is above, or has anyone any suggestions on what I could do to cover and protect my stuff?
The idea I have is a light weight fire you can lift on and off if we need to and maybe that has the lights that look like a fire?? Or am i dreaming

If you go to somewhere like Wickes you can buy sheets of clear plastic/acrylic/perspex. When our kids were born I got some of this, cut it to size, and then used self adhesive velcro tape (i.e. sticky one side velcro hooks or fur the other) and used this to hold it onto the TV stand. Kids initially as they became aware of the buttons behind tried to press but soon realised they couldn't and gave up. For general remote control use you could easily change channels etc through the clear plastic, and if you wanted to get in to change a DVD etc, then it came off easily for a few minutes. Where will you put your blu ray etc? If you end up with an empty hole where fire was maybe get a fire basket and out some logs in it for decoration?
Not quite sure what you want to achieve and whether you are moving the existing stuff. Obviously if you are a registered child minder you wuill need to bear in mind any safety issues aswell0 -

Our local B&Q has oodles of combination electric fire/fireplaces that look as tho they're intended to sit against a flat wall. You could probably put one of these in place; I would imagine they're heavy enough not to be toppled by an active child, but capable of being lifted out of the way by one or two adults....0 -
Looks like it maybe the perspex, I still need the dvd etc in the hole they are wired in through the old chimney and have no where else to put them, fire guards etc are usually floor standing so too easy to topple or too big, we needed to save the space hence why we out tv on wall as full corner was wasted, I would have liked not too see them as allThrifty Gifty Money Making =£280 Sealed pot challenge 1192 Toluna = 77339 Bingoport = £10 redeemed + 33470
