laptop - left click not working - any ideas please?

Hi, its me again!
My left click button on my touchpad isn't working. It stopped working the other day but then magically started up again. Now it has stopped again. It is a real nuisance because it means I can't easily highlight blocks of text to delete/copy and I can't drag and drop. I know I could just plus a mouse in, but I prefer to use the touch pad.
It is a samsung R522, and I'm on windows 7.
Any ideas?
Edit - I wonder if it is a hardware problem, as it seems to be an intermittent problem, even down to the fact that I can sometimes highlight text but then it stops working part way through the action.
Thanks in advance
Daisy

Hi There,
This is most likely an issue with the microswitch that controls the button, although as a first stop try updating your driver (samsung.com/us/support/downloads/NP-R522)
If this doesn't help you'll need to have it looked at by a pro - unless you're confident enough to open the laptop yourself and attempt to clean the switch (not recommended).
In the meantime, you can click by tapping the touchpad instead of the button and select blocks of text by tapping the touchpad at the beginning of the block of text you want to copy > hold shift > then tap the touchpad at the end of the block of text - this isn't an ideal solution but should keep you going without having to resort to an external mouse.P.I.C.N.I.C problem: Problem In Chair, Not In Computer0 -
It may indeed be failure of the microswitch or wear on the plastic part that makes contact with it.
However, are any users of the laptop guilty of eating while using it? I know from personal experience that - for example - digestive biscuit crumbs can lodge under the edge of the buttons and stop them being depressed far enough to actuate the switch. Brushing around the edge with an old toothbrush can dislodge stuff that is there but not visible.0 -
Hi, I have been away for a few days so apologies for the delay in replying.
Thanks for the advice.
Strangely it is working fine again now (touch wood!) perhaps it just needed a rest!
But I will give it a brush to eliminate crumbs (and yes I do sometimes eat and type at the same time
