Economy 7 meter confusion
My E7 meter appears to have 3 readings - Rate 1, Rate 2 as expected and then another one - Rate 1 is currently 17xxx, Rate 2 06xxx and the other one is 32xxx - what's this third reading actually for? From what I've read some E7 meters combine the two to produce the 3rd, is it a combination of the two readings as if they were all at the night rate or something?

Does the sum of rate 1 and rate 2 equal the other rate? if so then that is correct.:footie:

Do you mean if Rate 1 = 10p/kWh and Rate 2 = 5p/kWh then the total = (R1*2 + R3) ? if so then perhaps, but they don't directly add together :wall: (I don't know what rates I'm supposed to be being charged yet, so can't work it out, if that's what it's meant to be)
As I said, the Rate 1 reading is in the order of 17,000 and Rate 2 6,000 yet the 3rd reading is 32,000.0 -
It does actually say "TOTAL" on the display (just looked again) - but the numbers make no sense?

Are you sure it's 32? Could you check again as 17+6=23 Could you have transposed the digits at this early hour when writing them down?
Why do you want gas heating back? Gas meters are just as confusing? Take reading multiply to make into cubic metres then multiply and divide out by a few othe numbers to reach a kWh figure. What happened to it? Is it worth fixing/installing?:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

R1 - 17559
R2 - 6113
TOTAL - 32919
I've just moved into this place recently and it has storage heaters hence E7 - my last flat had gas central heating in it so no need for any stupid fancy tariffs/meters for the electric, far less confusion :rotfl:0 -
Hmmm

Is this what I in fact have? Not E7 but "ComfortPlus White Meter" - it might explain why Scottish Power would not transfer the supply to Spark Energy as per my other thread.0 -

I had to switch to E7 in my new flat too. Not an easy adjustment.
The only thing I can suggest is that R1 and R2 are fine, but the total may be the gross total over a length of time(previous customers in that property) The energy provider may have 'zeroed' the rate amount, perhaps when the person changed tariff. I'd say, if you can, to check which rate the meter is using at certain times of the day and night. You should have an immersion heater on the wall. When that light's on, then you'll be on R2, and when not, you'll be on R1. Also, obviously you're meter will show you that too. Is it a digital display?
I hope I've not missed something, and I'm just explaining the obvious....0 -

What you should do is take a reading today, then take a reading tomorrow. then subtract todays reading from tomorrows to get amount used in ! day. I think you will then find that Rate 1 total plus rate 2 total = Total total.0 -
Hi Kilty,
If you want to e-mail me your details to onlinecomplaint@scottishpower.com I will check what tariff you are on and explain the benefits, from what you have said you may be on Comfort Plus White Meter, which is different from both White Meter an Comfort Plus Control.
I have given a discription of this below.
> A 3 rate tariff with a controlled circuit and a night time (low)/ day time (normal) split.
> Controlled circuit is solely for storage heaters and is available for either;
a) a period or period totalling 8.5 hours in each 24 hour period starting 12.00, or
b) determined by ScottishPower weathercall
> Low/ Night rate is 8.5 hours between 22.00 & 08.30 GMT
> Day/ Normal is for any other usage
Kind regards
