DRO and home insurance
Hi,
I am in the process of getting home insurance. Having been subject to a DRO which finished in Dec 2010, I am unsure if this is classed as being bankrupt. I asked the insurer and they said they did not know and advised that if I had been declared bankrupt i would have had to appear in court. Obviously I dont want to be fraudulant in taking out insurance so please can someone give me a definitive answer,
Thanks

Well no, you have not been made bankrupt. You are subject to a Debt Relief order which is a different form of insolvency all together. If the question had asked 'Have you ever had any form of insolvency' then that would be a different story.
HOWEVER.. your DRO will show as bankruptcy on your credit report, so may cause problems when they credit check you. I would suggest calling the company you wish to go with for clarification.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043
Que sera, sera.

May be worth adding a notice of correction to your credit file to say this was a DRO not bankrutpcy? It's an annoying fact that the Credit Reference agencies cannot record DROs as DROs - you would think after this time they could have changed this.
nervous but determined
