Ebay item not collected - came back this morning

I sold an item late September and the buyer was slow to pay - only paid when I opened an unpaid item claim. I sent the item the day after payment was received and the post office attempted to deliver it on 6th October - it was to be 'signed for' and was too big to go through the letterbox. The item then sat at the sorting office awaiting collection (they kept it for nearly two weeks) - I emailed the buyer to give them a nudge about collection but heard nothing. The item arrived back with me today.
I'm going to refund the buyer in full (purchase price and postage) and will send an email saying I assume they no longer require the item etc. I dont really want to give them the option of having it resent as there is no guarantee they will go and get it a second time and I'm already £4.00 down on the postage plus the FVF. What feedback would be appropriate for me to leave the buyer I was thinking along the lines of 'buyer did not collect from sorting office, no communication so money refunded in full'.
Also what happens if they give me a neg - I'm a very new seller.

Don't whatever you do leave that feedback, sellers can only leave positives for buyers and that would be considered a false positive an would get removed and would score against you. If they neg you there isn't a lot you can do about it, apthough I doubt even eBay will ban you for just one, and buyers take note of a negative with a cool professional response more positively than a positive, so if they neg think very carefully about your response.0

Thanks for the help - what feedback could I leave or would it be best to only respond if they leave me feedback? I had a horrible feeling from the beginning that this sale was going to go pearshaped.0 -
If I were you, I wouldnt even send them the postage back. In fact dont do anything unless they open a dispute with you.
