Get a code reader, 54 plate diesel should be fully OBDII compliant. Get a code reader with live data
so you can see things like fuel pressure and throttle position, EGR etc.

Get one cheaper than paying a dealer for a diagnostic.

Alternatively the O/P could spend nothing and take it back to the dealer as its under warranty??

A 54 plate car under warranty?

I thought the spanner light on a Corsa C was a service indicator light? Normally the "engine light" comes on if there is a fault. Or am I mistaken?

You are mistaken, they are both 'error' lights on a Corsa, the engine one is a more serious light indicating a problem which could cause (I think) cat damage. You can drive on a spanner light but must stop on an engine light.

Copied off the internet..... but this is how to do it,
Before I do mine I remove the brake light bulbs....up to you... but I do this so as not to drain the battery. If you want to reset most codes (if not all) just disconnect the battery.
FYI on my car I kept getting 0220 & 0120, just to show you can't really rely on these things very much, the problem turned out to be needed new spark plugs!

This tutorial will tell you simply how to check any fault codes logged in yourcar, in a cheap cost effective way without the hassle of paying a garage £50 for a diagnostic check

    Tools
No specialist tools are needed, only 2 working feet are required, 30 seconds of your time and pen & paper to write down the codes

    STEP 1:

Get inside yourvehicle a firmly place yourself in your seat. Once in, press both the accelerate and brake pedal together

    STEP 2:

With both pedals pressed, put your key in the ignition and turn it to position 2, which is the position that switches all auxilary heating on but not the engine

    STEP 3:

Once done, the spanner light will start flashing

if it flashes 10 times it means the number is '0' and any other flashes corresponds to a number with a pause between each number

    for example code P0110
the light will flash ten times then pause (2sec Or 1 not sure) flash once, (2sec pause) flash once, (2 sec pause) then flash ten times

if you have more than one code it will stop for a break between each code

however if you don’t have any code stored it will start Flashing and keeps on flashing until you release the pedals

If you follow the above steps you are certain to find codes without ever having to plug an OBD equipment

    Code list is here

    What did it do?

& what did you do? Exactly...

    get in car,
    close door
press accelerate & brake pedal together all the way down and hold them there
Put key in ignition, turn key till dash lights light up, keep pedals pressed down, all the time.
Spanner light will start to flash.

If flashes continuously with no pauses there is no code recorded.
