Tax Credits Overpayment advice

Hi

Wondering if anyone could advise on the best way to proceed with a long running problem I,m having with HMRC.

In a nutshell I have had problems since 2008/09 when I received no payments due a computer error which eventually resulted in payments by cheque for 12 months. This was followed by overpayment notices as the system was thinking each cheque was a duplicate payment which I was advised to ignore .
Latest problem started this year when payments stopped altogether due to an alleged overpayment in 2008/09 of approx £500 and 2009/10 of £300
I disputed this and have recieved a letter today advising the first overpayment is because I lost my job in March 2009 and did not tell them for 2 months although in my notes I have noted I called them 9:45 two days later.I've realised today due to loss of income my actual income was £2000 less than what I had estimated for the year.
The second overpayment is due to an increase in total income of approximately £6000 for the year which they are saying I didn't notify them until June 2010 when I have confirmation from them that I gave them this figure in November 2009 the day after I started my new higher paid job.

Apologies for the long post but if anyone as any tips or hints of the best way to proceed I would be grateful

When you advised them of the changes, did you not receive a new notice of assessment based on the figures you gave them? If you didn't then you should have chased this up - as this is confirmation that they have put in the new information and reassessed you based on this.
  • For the second year I have a re-accessment note from them in November with the new information on it that they are claiming I didn't give them to the following June some seen months later.

With regards to the first year I lost my job on 26th March and in my notes I have recorded that I telehoned them on the following Monday 30th March at 9:45 and I have the persons name who I called.

They are claiming that I didn't notify them till 5th May, I'm wondering as I called them just before the year end they didn't process the information until May ?
I have completed a subject access request and asked for copies of all telephone calls and notes once I've gone through those I'll write my response to them
