Hi to all Money Saving Expert forum members!
As the title says i'm a newbie to the forum and in need of some advice if you wouldn't mind!
I am 25 and my partener is 26, we have saved for a very long time and are now in the final process of buying a 4 bed end terrace in Bracknell, Berkshire.
We have no idea of where to start looking at energy providers, we have already in place a tv/broadband/telophone provider but with regards to gas, electric, water we have no idea/undestanding of what to do! It may sound stupid to some but never having been in this situation any advice would be very welcome. Do we look at the big names i.e. British Gas or is there any websites that you guys can recommend? Dual Fuel or separate providers for each utility?
It will be just the two of us in the house, we both work, i am in the Building Trade and my partener is a newly qualified Peadiatric Nurse so she works shifts and is in the house at different times of the day.
Please forgive me if i have posted this thread in the wrong section and also i don't know all the abbreviations for common forum words so i do apologise in advance!
Thank you all for your time and hopefully your advice,
James

HiYa jimnewson21,
- welcome to the forum my friend. You'll get a more objective and thought through response if you tell us what sort of Room & water heating in particular you have / gas / electric / what type etcDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Have a look at the EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) for the house.
Ask the vendor what the last year's electricity and gas consumption.
Failing all that, because life is too short, just tick medium user on comparison sites.0 -
First of all well done in moving in to your new home.
First of all do your research. Check the comparison sites and see whats the best deal for you.
Next thing is find out who supplies the property. Once you find out give call the supplier and then give them readings from the meters from your entry date.
Just to clarify. if the cheapest tariff you want is not your property supplier you will still technically have to register against the meters in the property with them. once this is done then as long as you have not signed up to a fixed contract you will then be free to contact your desired supplier and ask them to take over your supply. This can take up to 6 weeks and you will most likely get a bill for temporary period you are with the initial property supplier.
this is my understanding of the process so if im wrong i apologise.
