My wife has a Freelander... (and no not just for the school run!!).. its was bought in 2002, and has just come out of warantee.. 3 Months ou of warantee.. it has 19000Miles , and a full LR service history..
Well as SO MANY OWNERS KNOW>>>> the head gasket failed yesterday..
So on the phone to LR Customer Care ("The we don'ts") went throught the whole Seen this on "Watchdog".. it a known fault.. what you doing about it...
The "We Don't" Care opperator admited that its a fault with the Rover Engines, but that LR are looking at these cases as "good Will"..
Now.. not sure what bit of EC law applies.. some one please help.
But if a fault is present at manufature.. and the goods fail before a resonable length of service (19000 miles on a car!!!).. then LR should still be liable... ?
As it is I had to have it recovered to a LR dealer.. (who are most helpful.. at the moment).. but have told me that if LR UK do not contribute the bill could be £1200 for a new head gasket.. of £4500 for new engine..
If my local garage was to do the Head Gasket.. they tell me £450 max...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ahghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

visit https://www.honestjohn.co.uk. there is a lot of info on there including a multi party action group in respect of the 1.8 engines.
With respect how did you come to buy a lemon like that, I thought it has been common knowledge about head gaskets blowing because of the small radiators and overheating, an even bigger problem with that nail of an engine is the cylinder liners, theres been reports and programmes like watchdog on about them for years.0
