Hi,
I need to have a dental check-up.
Also, I need to have some mercury amalgam fillings removed.
Can anyone tell me if I can have this work done on the NHS?
I'm on a low income and so was wondering if there's support available. Thanks.

Try the benefits forum. If you are on IS I think you can.0 -

Some people on a low income may qualify for help with prescription charges. Your entitlement to help is based on your circumstances, such as your level of income, savings, etc. You will have to fill in an HC1 form 'Claim for Help with Health Costs' giving various details of your circumstances and then send it off in the prepaid envelope provided.
If you qualify for help, you will be sent an HC2 Certificate for full help, or an HC3 Certificate for partial help, which you will need to produce when paying for your prescription. The certificate will tell you whom it covers and how long it lasts. If your circumstances change for the better, you can continue using the certificate until it expires. If your circumstances change for the worse during the period of the certificate, you should make another claim. If your circumstances will remain unchanged after the time period, then make a new claim before the current certificate expires.

Even if you are entitled to NHS treatment your silver fillings cant be changed to white fillings on the NHS.0 -
Try Marriages, relationships, family - then Health & beauty part of the forum. Some really helpful dentists on there are happy to give very good advice."Sometimes letting things go is an act of far greater power than defending or hanging on.”0

You will not get amalgam fillings replaced on the nhs with one very rare exception, if you have seen a consultant in a hospital and are diagnosed with lichen planus which is adjacent to an amalgam filling then that one filling only MAY be replaced. It is destructive to tooth everytime you take a filling out and there are absolutely no other medical reasons to replace fillings.
If you are on low income then pick up a form hc1 from library, doctor, dentist to fill in and see if you qualify for help.0 -

Whilst i was on IS i was entitled to free NHS dental treatment. Might be worth ringing them up to see what other benefits etc make u entitled to free treatment.0
