Just been on the comparison website. I am currently unemployed. Cheapest quote for a 47 year old on a 2002 astra 1.6 is £990. If i change my employment status to what i used to do my quote comes down to £510. Talking to the broker he says being unemployed i am more likely to drive the car more often. I said that may not be the case due to cost of fuel etc etc.

Does the insurers have access to your employment status?

What is to prevent someone taking out an insurance cover and claim he is employed when he is really unemployed?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

It would be fraud, so you'd be unable to claim on the policy and it could be voided at any time the fraud came to light. Leaving you in a pickle as far as getting cover in the future is concerned.

OP, what price do you get if you quote 'retired'?

You could then 'come out of retirement' when you get a job.

This would be fraud if the op is receiving JSA

    Yes, I agree.

But if they are not getting JSA?
  • If you are not claiming JSA, what about house husband/wife.

He is over complicating it. Historical claims data shows that the unemployed make more and bigger claims than people that say they are your previous employment (what ever that was) just like 18 year old boys make more and bigger claims than 40 year old ladies.

Maybe this is because the unemployed need to claim more often as they don't have the money to cover small incidents themselves without involving the insurance company.
