How much before payday did you give the wages dept the new account details.
    13 days. Thanks.

I would contact Santander again and ask them how long the money will take to 'bounce back', they must have a time frame for this type of transaction.

When your employer receives the money they will probably pay you by CHAPS, same day payment.

When I had a problem with too much money being taken from my a/c the bank retrieved it in 4 days and were able to tell me it would take between 3 - 5 working days. As it was my banks error (Lloyds) they offered to give me an interest free overdraft so perhaps your bank might help in this capacity if it looks like it might take a while for the money to come back.

Just called Santander the say it will bounce back in about 4 days but also the said it can bounce back same day cant get any help from them they are such W*****S thats why i left because of there crap service. Thanks for your help

4 days for the bounce back isn't too long actually, so that's not bad...

Yes the blame lies fairly and squarely with your wages dept - I fail to see why they cannot just send a new instruction for a BACS to your new bank because (a) it's their fault and (b) they know they'll get the money back (because they know exactly how the system works).

Just out of interest many first-time posters write long posts; when we are reading on a screen it can be quite difficult to pick out the pertinent points of a post, hence my request.

  • Hi Sandra. I appreciate this will be a stressfull time but the money will come back and if your wages dept made the mistake they should tide you over.
My wife works for Santander and she says the money will take 3 days to be returned to sender.
    Hope this helps

Hi thanks very much this is all i needed, tell you wife thank you from me, i can now sleep easy without having to worry thanks again.
  • Oh dear Sandra, not sure it's the banks fault. A little personal responsibility is needed here. I'm afraid you not properly changing your pay details means you've had a 'STUPID TAX' taken against.

I'm sure you've learnt your lesson though. Keep smiling!

So giving the payroll dept 13 days notice is not properly changing the details ?

Judging by your other post it looks like the username suits !
