home insurance help please

lost a couple of slates ( nothing too bad ) during gales in Feb after eventually getting the insurance to send an asesser round ( some three months later ) he told the wife it was not accepted i emailed and rang the company but got no answer either email or phone
i finally got through this week and they send is was declined due to wear and tear i asked where storm damage comes into wear and tear they then said because i hadnt contacted them too long time had elapsed i explained that i had tried but you never answerd my phone calls or emails
the answer i got we will look at it for you
that was two days ago
are they re-looking or just a fob off
and where do i go from here
