Thinking of taking the 2 children, 8 and 6, with the husband to visit the SS Great Britain on monday as have an inset day, are there any discount vouchers around. Also does anyone know if it has its own parking or where is the best place to park to go and visit it.

Plenty of car parks in and around the city centre, your best option might be http://www.at-bristol.org.uk/parking.html
Also, don't forget Bristol Zoo, just a short drive from the centre.0 -

Free entry to the Brunel Institute
There is free entry to the Brunel Institute where the National Brunel Archive is held and you can see originals including drawings by Brunel himself (from as young as 7). The Brunel Institute is adjacent to Brunel's ss Great Britain. It is free entry but you do need to take ID.
Car parking
There is a public car park next to Brunel's ss Great Britain which is currently (Oct 2011) £1.10 to park for 4 hours (max). There is also a car park on Cumberland Road next to the Caravan Club site.
The Park and Ride bus, stops close to the 'ss Great Britain Cross-harbour ferry'. The 506 bus service operates between Temple Meads and Brunel's ss Great Britain.
Bristol Ferry operates at certain times of the year between Temple Meads, Bristol City Centre and stops directly outside Brunel's ss Great Britain.
I hope this is of some use to you.0 -

hi, if the weather is nice you can also get a boat from there to the center and back (maybe 15 min each way) - kids might like it. Part of the SS eexperience is that you can go downstairs and look a the outside of the ship as seen beneath the water. This is quite cool but easy to miss if you don't know to look for it.0

Is the M-shed museum worth a visit as well, I see its free!!0

I popped into M-shed on a walk round the docks about a month ago.
Yes: It's FULL of all sorts of stuff; the children will love it; could have spend ages there, but we were actually out for a walk and just doing a quick 'reccy' with friend who lives in Bristol.
We were there on a Saturday and it was PACKED. Very popular. Don't count on eatng there as the cafe was relatively small for the number of people there; big queue on Saturday.
It was my first trip down to the Quay for about 25 years; before that I used to live in Bristol. There's now so MUCH more there to look at. There's sometimes the sailing ship 'Matthew' to go on, as well as the SS Great Britain.
Also there are lots of other small free museums around the centre. I'll see if I can find the link.0 -

We picked up a very useful map of the docks/city centre at M-Shed, and were sorry we didn't have time to extend our walk up to the Georgiam House and Brandon Hill park. LOTS to do in quite a small area.

and on groupon bristol for the next 19 or so hours!!Rocking the boat can result in scaring the ship’s cat, lost handbags and head-banging deck scrubbers. Go with the ebb and flow with today’s Groupon from The Bristol Packet. Choose from the following options:
• £5 for a 45 minute floating harbour tour for two adults (Up to 55% off)
• £7.50 for a 45 minute floating tour for two adults and two children (Up to 57% off)0
