Hi all,

I applied for life insurance 2 days ago but was refused today because of my previous drug addiction 4 years ago. I have however been offered life insurance through a specialist broker at £33 a month for level cover.

My question is, how many years risk free medical history is required to be able to obtain a decent competitive premium?

Thanks

  • Most of the applications ask for last 5 years medical conditions.
  • It will all depend on the insurers view of the risk you present. Generally 5 years is the cut off point - but - bear in mind the insurer might still write to your GP who could disclose your previous problem. If Life Insurance is important to you at your current stage in life, I'd say accept the £33 per month quote (assuming its with a reputable provider etc).
