Hi I also had a problem with my sons all be it at Argos -They exchanged it immaediately, they do come with a 2year guarantee so take it along to toys r us you shouldnt have a problem at all.
One other thing have you upgraded the software to a version 3.02 it may or may not be a software problem.0 -
NEVER try and fix things while they are under guarantee, this invalidates the guarantee. This is within the first 6 months so the problem has to be assumed to have been there when purchased, even if it has only just developed. Do not be fobbed off and told you have to deal with the manufacturers, they should exchange it with no questions asked unless there is evidence it has been misused, such as dunked in water or somesuch! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Hi
Thanx for your advice,I have phoned toys r us who are saying that they maybe able to replace psp.I now cannot find my reciept  will they be able to check from barcode on box that i have bought it from them and will my guarantee now be no good
Thanx again Ella0 -
if worst comes to worst and toys r us/sony dont replace (and if your psp is compatible) you could downgrade/upgrade the firmware and then play the games from the memory stick. Its a grey area but last thing you want is to have to buy another psp! there is some info about this process here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=332834ummm...0

If you have lost your receipt you could contact psp official customer support on 08705 99 88 77 and see if they could be of any help to you.0

Did you pay by a card? If did and have the statement from this you should be fine.
I purchased a Laptop from Toys R Us a couple of years ago now, with 5 months it went wrong. Unfortuantely I couldn't find my receipt, but I had my statement and was able to get a full refund.0 -
Hi again,
Toys r us are refusing to even look at my sons psp as they say they only have a 28 day refund or exchange policy, but i was not told this by the girl who i spoke to on tuesday morning when i told her it was bought in nov and was i xmas pressie for my son.I was told that to take it in and they would have a look at it for me.So it looks as though I may have to pay for it to be repaired.

Dont pay to have it repaired woman!!!!
All Sony products (nay, electrical products) come with a 12 month guarantee at least! If TRU wont fix it (i'd check this out too, surely they're liable to some degree) then Sony will certainly remedy the problem for free!! Fish out the guarantee and give their CS a ring, see what they have to say. they may say go back to toys-r-us, if they do ask them for something official to state that you're entitled to do this, else hey'll ask you to securely package it and either collect it or ask you to post it (use special delivery if this is the case obvo!) but they should send a courier! they did this 3 times for me when i had probs with my PS2! Sure its a pain, but it cost me naffing, and the probbo was fixed eventually!!0 -
Did you find any proof of purchase from toys r us?
receipt or statement?
If so I wouldn't take no for an answer - you bought it from them in good faith, not expecting it to pack in after a couple of weeks of use. It's not fit for purpose so they should replace it.
If not, i'd contact sony direct and ask their advice.0 -
From experience, Sony are really fussy with retailers as to what they will take back. However, assuming you have all the packagaing etc. there will be some warranty info in the box.
If not, try Sony Helpline: 08705 99 88 77, & have your serial number ready
Hope this helps.0
