New Gas User Looking Advice
I’m looking advice for a friend. An old workhouse building has been restored and converted into homes. The outside of the building remains the same, stone and single glazed sash windows. The inside, as you might expect is up to modern standards. The rooms are not standard, some are large-ish some small, some norrow; the kind of thing you’d expect in a two hundred year old building. One of the houses has been let to my friend by a local housing association.
Anyway that’s the setup but here’s the problem, or rather here is where I’m looking advice. The houses heating and hot water supply is via pre-payment gas. Now gas up until now gas has not been widely available in the north of Ireland and I’m looking advice on how to best manage this system.
From what I’ve seen so far the gas cuts out at 15 units and that’s an indication to top up. I appreciate of course that you can press the over-ride button and continue to use these 15 units. You seem to get 21 units for £10 but the friend has just moved in on Monday night and so far we haven’t figured out how to manage the gas supply. She had 21 units yesterday morning and by late afternoon it had shot down to 15 and off course cut itself off. That said she had all the radiators on to warm up the house and get the damp out of it. But even at that it did seem to go rather quickly
Going up to see her this evening and see if I can help sort her out. So really tips on using gas in the home is what I’m after.
